Z Makila (he/they) is an educator, stage manager and community organizer from Minneapolis. Their very first job was through the Step Up program in high school, and since then they’ve worked in a lot of places. Most recently they worked as a kindergarten classroom assistant for Seward Montessori School, and they currently serve as stage manager for Theatre Elision. Z also dabbles in lighting design and sound programming, and does some work as a teaching artist with young people who are interested in learning more about technical theater.
Because Z could never just pick one thing to focus on, he graduated from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in 2017 with an independently-designed, interdepartmental major which combined classical viola performance, psychology and creative writing.
Z lives in Minneapolis with his partner Joey and their cats Butters and Milk. For fun, he likes to listen to air traffic control (the stage managers of the sky!) and watch airplanes take off.
