AchieveMpls and the MPS Office of Black Student Achievement are hosting a virtual HBCU College Fair on Thursday, October 15 from 1-3 p.m., which will connect high school students directly with reps from Historically Black Colleges and Universities to learn about academic programs, campus life, financial aid and much more.

1,000 registration spots are available, with priority given to juniors and seniors in Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS), as well as Saint Paul Public Schools’ (SPPS) Central, Como Park, Creative Arts and Humboldt high schools. The event will then be opened to 9th and 10th grade students depending on space.

One breakout session will be specifically geared toward potential student athletes, with information on the student athlete experience and NCAA eligibility requirements.

We’re also looking for volunteers from MPS, SPPS and our other partner organizations, particularly HBCU alums. Volunteers will assist with the live chats by presenting student questions to college reps, and also provide an adult presence to monitor student engagement. We are also providing opportunities for HBCU alums to connect with students who are considering attending HBCU colleges.

For more information, contact Lisa Dornacker, our Career Readiness Coordinator at Patrick Henry High School, at 612-486-2512 or Lisa.Dornacker@mpls.k12.mn.us.
