For many of our community's leaders, today's public schools are a mysterious place. Public education looks different now than it did when they were growing up. Principal for a Day allows participants nearly unlimited access to every aspect of managing a school, providing a very clear picture of the reality of Minneapolis Public Schools. The goal of the event is for participants to gain a greater understanding of the public school's most pressing needs, and to translate their day-long experience as a Principal for a Day into long-term relationships that enhance the learning environments in Minneapolis schools and support student achievement.
On October 14, 2008, thirty-four business, civic and community leaders spent the day in thirty-one Minneapolis Public Schools. The day ended with a Town Hall meeting, during which participants shared their experiences from the day with each other and district leadership.
