STEP-UP Achieve intern Nancy

Seeing Nancy in her scrubs you might think she’s one of the nurses at Fairview, and she fits in well enough to pass as one. Nancy is a 2011 graduate of Patrick Henry High, and spent two summers as a STEP-UP Achieve intern in the cardiology ward at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview.

During Nancy’s second internship she felt more connected, learned more valuable new skills, and enjoyed the camaraderie on the nursing team. “In school you do team projects, but working here really brings the work to life,” says Nancy.

Fairview nurses relied on Nancy, too. “STEP-UP Achieve interns are a huge benefit for any company because they come to learn and do really good work, not just collect a paycheck,” says Hilary Emerson, Lead Human Resources Assistant at Fairview.

Nancy says her STEP-UP Achieve experience helped her get much closer to her goal of working in the medical field. She’s now a student at the College of St. Benedict, where she’s preparing to major in nursing.
