Seeing Nancy in her scrubs might make you think she’s one of the nurses at Fairview, and she fits in well enough to pass as one.  Nancy is a 2011 graduate of Patrick Henry High School and spent the past two summers as a STEP-UP intern at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview. 

In Nancy’s second year in the cardiology ward she now felt more connected and continued to learn new skills and enjoy the sense of camaraderie on the nursing team. “In school you do teamwork on projects, but working here really brings it to life,” says Nancy.  The nurses rely on Nancy, too.  “STEP-UP Achieve interns are a huge benefit for any company because they come to learn and do really good work, not just to collect a paycheck,” says Hilary Emerson, Lead Human Resources Assistant at Fairview.

As a result of her internship experience Nancy decided to become a nurse, and says that STEP-UP Achieve helped her get one step closer to figuring out what she wants to do in life.  She is now a freshman at the College of St. Benedict and is preparing to major in nursing.
