Pam Costain, President and CEO

Pam assumed leadership of AchieveMpls in 2010 after four years as an elected member of the Minneapolis Board of Education. Pam brings passion for strong public schools, education equity, civic engagement, international human rights, immigrant rights and community organizing to her work, as well as over 25 years of executive leadership in the nonprofit sector.

During her tenure at AchieveMpls, the organization’s staff and annual budget have increased steadily, its focus on career and college readiness has sharpened and community engagement has become a core strategy. Pam is dedicated to strengthening the alignment between the public, private and nonprofit sectors and is an active participant in Generation Next, the Education Transformation Initiative, the Northside Achievement Zone high school success action team and the KBEM-FM board of directors.

Pam is a former state director for Parents United for Public Schools, Director of Education and Training at Wellstone Action, and Executive Director of the Resource Center of the Americas. She holds a B.A. from Carleton College and an M.A. in education from the University of Minnesota. She’s the mother of two adult daughters, including Rosa, who teaches in Minneapolis Public Schools, and Mattie, who trains teachers to be organizers. Pam is also the proud grandmother of two beautiful boys—Luca and Oscar—and loves hiking, Zumba, swing dancing, poetry, her fabulous book group and the occasional game of poker.
